Clarity that helps important work land

communications and marketing consultancy

Projects are led by Laura O’Connor and supported by members of the Collective when specialized creative or technical expertise is required.

Projects often include:
● Translating research and frameworks into public-facing narratives
● Creating digital campaigns and content
● Aligning internal strategy with external storytelling
● Launching initiatives, reports, and platforms
● Supporting visibility tied to grants, KPIs, or leadership goals

Our work turns big-picture goals into clear communications strategies.

We help work be seen, understood, and supported by the people who matter most.

here are a few examples:

Through a grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, the Michigan Council for Maternal and Child Health engaged me to research and write seven new reports examining perinatal health issues—particularly those affecting Black and Indigenous women. The organization also needed a way to house and translate both new and existing reports for state policymakers.

From conceptualization to implementation, I led the entire marketing process for Voices for Birth, a year-long research and storytelling initiative that included interviews with more than 60 contributors—physicians, nonprofit leaders, researchers, and Michigan mothers.

The project resulted in a digital platform presenting the state of maternal health in Michigan, along with policy recommendations across 14 issue areas. Deliverables included a brand video, video storytelling, advocacy materials, infographics, and legislative learning sessions. Working with Julie, Sumana, Lainey, and Monjoa, we delivered the project end-to-end. I was rehired by the Council to provide ongoing marketing counsel for 2026.

Generations United engaged me to develop an annual communications plan aligned with its new strategic plan. I reviewed organizational priorities, conducted discovery conversations with senior leadership, and led a visioning workshop to develop a clear messaging framework and annual roadmap.

The resulting plan outlined how to strengthen communications infrastructure, better leverage staff skills and capacity, organize tools and content, and use templates and workflows to manage communications more efficiently. It included benchmarks, quarterly metrics, and clearly defined roles and responsibilities—ensuring communications were tied directly to organizational goals and outcomes. I’ve worked with Generations United for several years across multiple projects.

Funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Grandfamilies & Kinship Support Network is the nation’s first and only national technical assistance center supporting organizations that serve kinship families. Working alongside Megha, I developed and executed a digital strategy to establish GKSN as a standalone national voice—distinct from its parent organization.

We built a strong and growing LinkedIn presence, tracked engagement and performance monthly, and adjusted strategy and content to reach agencies and leaders nationwide. Our work centers on sharing success stories that highlight the Network’s impact in connecting organizations across states to learn from one another. I’ve partnered with the Network for several years and have also been engaged by one of its managing partners to lead storytelling workshops.

Project Foxwood operates three summer camps in Northern Michigan, along with a Spring Break program and a semester-away experience. The organization needed to clearly differentiate each program to avoid internal competition and help families understand which option was right for them.

Through a series of facilitated workshops, I worked with camp leadership to clarify the purpose, positioning, and unique value of each program. I then developed messaging frameworks and content guidance to bring the refreshed identities to life—ensuring each camp was distinct, cohesive, and clearly communicated.
